The palo alto high school boys' varsity tennis team ended its postseason run with a rough quarterfinal loss to bellarmine college preparatory in the central coast section tournament on may 9, bringing a highly successful season to a close. the vikings, seeded fifth in the 24-team tournament, confidently entered the quarterfinals after a 5-2 win over los gatos high school and a 19 match winning streak. "we were a team on a mission this season, " head coach andy harader said. "the guys played great all year and really stuck it to los gatos in a hard-fought match to top off a really successful season." despite the vikings' positive experiences this season, the varsity team was defeated in the quarterfinals in an overwhelming 7-0 loss. "we were expecting to lose to bellarmine, but we did not expect to lose 0-7, " harader said. "i hoped that we would pull out two matches, but bellarmine came out firing." bellarmine went on to beat sacred heart preparatory, the topranked team in the united states, in the semifinals. "there is definitely some consolation in losing to a school like bellarmine, " harader said. "they came into the ccs tournament angry about their seeding, and it definitely showed in their postseason performance." although the vikings did not want to end their season in a blowout loss, the players are proud of their achievements this year. the vikings earned the santa clara valley athletic league de anza division title and ended the season with a strong overall record of 23-3. "overall, it was a great season and a great experience, " junior david plotkin said. One of the greatest additions to f.u.d.g.e. in the past year is definitely our music director, jason whiting. jason came highly recommended to us by former roommate of his who was a cast member in urinetown -- last summer's musical, for which we were in need of a performance accompanist ; . we heard wonderful things about him, and jason exceeded every expectation, and continues to do so regularly. jason has only been in the boston area since 1999, after growing up in independence, missouri. he attended northwest missouri state university, focusing on child & family studies and music. as fate would have it, music is the very thing that brought jason to massachusetts from missouri. jason was working at a missouri daycare and would play piano for the kindergarten classes during naptime, helping children and, more often than not, teachers! ; get to sleep. his cousin-in-law's brother owned a recording studio in brighton, ma, so jason and his cousin-in-law decided to come out here to record a naptime cd to market to daycare centers- jason has been here ever since! he and his wife, siouxsanna ramirezcruz, now reside in hyde park with their crazy kitten, ellie. jason is currently employed as the music director at both the angier after school in waban, ma and the westwood recreation department; he also teaches private piano lessons in the greater boston area. besides accompanying for our urinetown, jason has music directed our productions of i sing!, our spring fundraiser, "i wish, " and our current show, into the woods. he has become an integral part of f.u.d.g.e. musical productions, and we can't imagine future shows without him. when jason is not venturing "into the woods" with us, he enjoys reading, watching movies, playing live online poker game and sleeping. jason: just a few more weeks and you can go back to doing all of your favorite things, but don't get too used to it, we'll need you for our fall production! ; we are so grateful for all of the time, talent, and hard work jason has put into each production he has been a part of. what a wonderful recommendation he was! he is definitely a "friend of f.u.d.g.e." for life! thanks jason.
