"registration!" the mask said, in a quiet but firm voice, sending lisa jumping back three feet. wally and the girl with the green hair giggled, and lisa touched the mask and stud poker.
The weekly house assembly every thursday this term was, to say the least, an enriching experience for all involved. the sheer variety and interest of the school house assemblies were enough to put any other house to shame. school house relies on its house assemblies to maybe learn something which we normally would not know which might aid us in our lives. mr godfrey has done a number of engrossing assemblies, ranging from him talking about the days when he was a school boy, to an assembly about the sea. mr godfrey gave everyone a sheet of paper with various poems on it connected with the sea, including `break, break, break, ' by lord tennyson, `on the sea, ' by john keats and my personal favourite, `time, ' by percy bysshe shelley who was, ironically, drowned off the coast of italy ; . many of us realised how much we take the sea for granted, when it so very close to school house. this year we have had a very large intake of people from abroad. in october, there was an assembly by the eastern europeans and russians and they gave the house a presentation on russia. it was educational, with many fascinating facts being given to us, but also captured the soul of what russia itself is. thankfully, there weren't any arguments about political ideology. we have had a number of guest speakers this term, including mr carr-hill. he delivered a thought-provoking speech on how we must be realistic in our goals for life and he made witty comparisons of life to a free texas holdem poker game. this enthused many members of the house, since nearly all the players in the poker club, which takes place every thursday after games, are from school house. more recently, the three heads of the boarding houses teamed up to give each house, one by one, a presentation on brighton. this consisted of giving us information on the vast array of cultural and fun activities that the boarders can take advantage of. this was particularly useful to full-time boarders. mrs woodmansey also gave us an insightful assembly on body-language it was especially helpful to those students about to embark on interviews! these are just some of the terrific assemblies that have taken place this term, and my salivary glands are drooling with anticipation for next term's assemblies. by adam seldon.
